Apple's HyperwallApple’s App store really is huge. If you’re looking to visually see how big the impressive app store is, you need to check out this video of the Apple App Store ‘Hyperwall’ at the WWDC in San Francisco.


Not the first video wall that Apple have created, this ‘Hyperwall’ is comprised of 30 synchronized 24-inch LED screens that display the top 50,000 apps as they are being downloaded. It takes the icons of 10,800 apps as they are downloaded around the world, to fill all 30 of the 24-inch displays. You can check out the super-amazing ‘Hyperwall’ in the video below...



Although, it still bears the question, what did it take to power this ‘Hyperwall’? Well Apple have said the wall was powered by 30 Mac Pro Towers with Mac OS X Snow Leopard and EVGA NVIDIA GTX 285 graphics card. As apps are downloaded from the App Store, their data is coalesced via an XML feed every five minutes. Apps are sorted and scheduled using Cocoa and Objective-C. The data is then passed to an OpenCL kernel, which drives the animation. Quartz composer brings all the technologies together and renders the final synchronized output using Quartz Composer Visualizer.

The Hyperwall looks great, and serves its purpose brilliantly. But, is it just another effort to show off, or just a fun way to show statistics? Regardless of Apple's intentions, it does look good...
